Clickable Map For Artefacts

A clickable map has been launched for internet users in Wales, allowing them to view historical artefacts from their area. Project manager Dr Dafydd Tudur said it would make accessing the images much easier and would “allow people to get to know their local history”.

The website is a collection of images from libraries and museums around Wales. Last year alone, the website gained more than a million visits.

Quake Measure

A small device originally used in laptops to prevent damage to its hard drive if it was dropped is being used as a tell sign for incoming earthquakes. The device successfully detected last months quake in Los Angeles.

As Jesse Lawrence, assistant professor of geophysics at Stanford University suggests, in this situation every moment counts. “If it is an earthquake, we could potentially send out signals to those who need it even before the energy from the quake has expanded out from the epicenter to those other people”

Microsoft Begin To Close The Windows

Microsoft has kicked off a research project for software that is lined up to take over their Windows operating system.  The new software named Midori is centered on the internet and with remove dependencies that tie Windows to a single PC.

Michael Silver, research vice president at Gartner, said the development of Midori was a reasonable step for Microsoft.
“The value of Microsoft Windows, of what that product is today, will diminish as more applications move to the web and Microsoft needs to edge out in front of that,” he said.
